A local garden centre has stepped up to replace the prized rosemary plant stolen from a bike shop on Southgate Road last week
Sam Jacob, 31, who is the owner of Micycle East was offering £300 for the plant worth £30. Despite many appeals, the perpetrator has yet to be caught and the plant has not been returned.
N1 Garden centre manager Paul Holt was visiting the bike shop on Tuesday. He said: “I was getting my puncture mended and it just came up in conversation. So I told them that I owned the garden centre around the corner and that I’d happily give them a new rosemary plant.”
Despite working in the plant business, this is the first time Mr Holt had heard of herbs being stolen. He said: “I haven’t heard of rosemary thieves before, but topiary thieves appear from time to time.
“But it’s London,” he added. “You always get a few unsavoury characters and if they see something that’s worth a few bob, they are happy to help themselves in the middle of the night.”
Meanwhile, Mr Jacob was chuffed with the bush. He said: “It’s so nice of him to do this. It’s great to see the community coming together!”
